The Sustainers

The Sustainers

Your Favorite Music

Based out of Harrisonburg, Virginia, The Sustainers play a wide variety of rock, pop, soul, and funk hits from the fifties to today.

Our sets include songs by great women singers and singer-songwriters like Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt, and Carole King, classic soul music by Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, and Otis Redding and funk from the likes of The Commodores and Chaka Khan.

We play new wave music from Blondie, The B-52s, and Talking Heads, and classic rock songs by The Doobie Brothers, Journey, Queen, and The Rolling Stones.

From pop hits by Stevie Wonder and Elton John, to classic oldies by The Everly Brothers and The Beatles, and newer hits by Lizzo, Amy Winehouse, and Keb’ Mo’, you’re guaranteed to hear something you want to sing or dance to.

More about the band

A portrait of Trisha Brown LewekeTrisha Brown Leweke, our frontwoman and lead vocalist, is originally from New York, where she sang lead for contemporary church choirs and did studio work for gospel and blues singers. She is the operator of Mother Bear Traditional Healing Arts in Harrisonburg.

Dan Easley, our bassist, who also sings a bit, has been playing music since he was five. In a previous life he founded, sang lead, and played banjo for Ragged Mountain String Band for their first few years.. He has produced scores for plays and short films by local artists and for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Mike “Pastor” Baxter plays keys and sings like a bird. In his spare time he teaches high school math.

Our guitarist, longtime area radio personality Scott Lowe, played guitar and sang with Shenandoah Valley 90’s and 2000’s bands The Shooters and Dead Air. For a short time after, he formed a comedy folk duo, Lowe and McElroy, before retiring from the stage for a decade to devote more time to his family. He’s thrilled to be back playing music with friends.

Bob Leweke has been the drummer for The Sustainers since the band’s formation in 2016. He lives in Harrisonburg with his wife and favorite lead singer, Trisha.

Our thanks to Rachel Leweke and Randall Wolf for the photographs, and to the folks at Blue Sprocket Sound, where we recorded our demos.
